Hey guys there are many people out there optimizing their WordPress websites, they enable object cache inside the Litespeed cache or any other free or pro caching plugins, not knowing if their server actually supports object cache?
This is quite a common mistake, enabling cache features without knowing if your server supports such features.
I have accidentally enabled this inside my Litespeed cache and noticed my website was loading very slowly and just was not performing as it should, I spent hours trying to debug what was going on and just couldn't come to the bottom of it.
This is when I turned off my cache plugin and decided to use W3 Total Cache, which is free with basic settings.
I only installed this to debug my server settings and realized that my server does not support object caching, I would recommend everyone to install this plugin and use the optimization wizard at the start-up to find out what settings your server supports and take notes of all settings.
As you can see below, this is what W3 total cache plugin provided me with;
As you can see from above, you can get a clear image of what style of optimization and caching you can adapt and use on your WordPress website using the W3 cache plugin.
Unfortunately, this was slowing down my website.
So I wanted to make everyone aware of this issue, especially if you're using Cloudflare optimizations along with any WordPress cache in combination.
Redis, Disk or Mem Object Cache
Now for some reason object caching slowed down my website even though it was meant to speed it up by 0.20 ms, this could be because I used memcache, but applying the settings to load from disk settings would have the same effects?
This is something I haven't tested yet.
Anyway, if you are wondering of using object cache, I would recommend fully testing your speed with object cache on, and object cache off, and see how well your website will perform, all web hosting servers are different, so you will probably see different settings and different features.
I find that disabling object memcache and using my server cache instead works a lot better, along with Cloudflare in combination.
Your combination of plugins and server features will work differently, there is no right or wrong, but enabling any caching features without server supporting them will cause huge slow down issues and huge miss configurations.
Took me almost a week to figure this out!
Anyway, I hope my experience in optimizing my website will allow other users to understand that enabling object cache plugin can have negative effects on your website, so make sure to check before and after enabling object cache, inside any cache plugins.
